call girl by jenniferhom
When I was doing research for the graphic novel The Possessed In 1905 (art by Angeline Mauri), I was surprised to discover that telephone operators in Los Angeles in that period were called "Hello Girls."

Just read your blog entry about the background behind this piece. I gotta say, your insight on the way computers were advertised was interesting. As is your illustration.

Using "Call Girl" reinforces your view on the role women played in the advertising. I have to agree with you, it's pretty insulting but since it inspired such a nice piece, I'm still going to have to fave this haha. :)

Also, gotta love those pointy torpedo bras!

Oh <3 <3 <3. Have worked on hotlines and call centers. Nothing like what they had to do back in the day, of course. Appreciate this very much. What a cutie. Like the faded/sepia-ish palette.
