When I was doing research for the graphic novel The Possessed In 1905 (art by Angeline Mauri), I was surprised to discover that telephone operators in Los Angeles in that period were called "Hello Girls."

Using "Call Girl" reinforces your view on the role women played in the advertising. I have to agree with you, it's pretty insulting but since it inspired such a nice piece, I'm still going to have to fave this haha.
Also, gotta love those pointy torpedo bras!
